That Much Further West
Director Thomas Dance
Jersey ∙ 14 MIN ∙ Documentary ∙ 2025 ∙ English
Five friends, five dirt bikes, and five days winding through the mountains of northern Spain. Picking up where a previous trip through the Pyrenees left off, filmmaker Thomas Dance sets out to question what “adventure” actually means when the beds are booked, the routes loosely planned, and everyone has a life waiting back home. What follows is a funny, self-aware ride through bad weather, broken roads, old villages and the particular friendship that comes from going somewhere together simply because you still can.
Director Bio

Thomas Dance is an independent documentary filmmaker who crafts visceral, poetic cinema exploring grief, family legacy, and self-reliance. Driven by the early loss of his father, Dance’s filmmaking is deeply rooted in personal history, frequently examining the profound weight behind daily physical rituals, mentorship, and the solitary pursuit of mastery. His short documentary, Life’s Like Changing Tyres, beautifully captures these themes through the lens of motorcycle wrenching and inherited wisdom, and was screened at TMFF in 2025.
