SHOWTIMES
Six days. 1,500 miles. Nothing but desert, dust, and determination. Ducati DesertX Rally drops us into the legendary NORRA Mexican 1000, where Alexander Smith, son of racing icon Malcolm Smith, pushes Ducati’s DesertX Rally to its limits. What follows is a fight for the podium, with Alexander battling for first place all the way to the finish line in San José del Cabo. It’s a raw, edge-of-your-seat look at one of the toughest races in North America.
Director Statement
I’m a director and the founder of Phlewid Films and I’ve spent over 20 years creating some of the most widely viewed and influential motorcycle content out there. I grew up obsessed with bikes and filmmaking, and my work is built on that mix of adrenaline, storytelling, and authenticity. I’m also a passionate editor — I’ve directed and edited all of my films, which has helped shape a distinct and consistent creative voice across everything I make. Over the years I’ve led launch campaigns for brands like Indian, Ducati, Kawasaki, and Triumph, and produced multiple award-winning motorcycle documentaries. I’ve been riding motorcycles my whole life — street, track, and dirt — but these days I’m most drawn to ADV and enduro. While I work with a tight crew of trusted collaborators, I stay deeply involved in every part of the process, bringing both versatility and a deep understanding of the ride to everything I direct.

Of Note
Matthew Sanders is a TMFF alumni with five of his films screening at the Festival including favourites like Chasing Light (TMFF 2024) and Trail Master (TMFF 2017).
